Write Columbia's History
A Cute Story About Early Coeducation
Ena Roseman
Alum
School of Nursing 1978

As nursing students entering as freshman in 1974, we were placed in the Columbia dorms for orientation and then moved to Eli White for the school year. One morning during orientation, I was walking to the shower (with my robe, etc.). A guy was walking in the opposite direction to the same place. This didn't bother me in the least, but he very kindly stated, "If you're taking a shower, I will wait." I replied, "As long as there are separate showers with separate curtains, I'm fine." He was absolutely shocked by this! We both took a shower at the same time. I always remember that so fondly.
