Your Columbians
James Shenton

James Shenton (1925–2003)
Historian
Columbia College 1949, PhD 1954
Faculty 1951–1997

James Shenton was the premiere historian of American history when I was at Columbia. He introduced our class to the specific history of Columbia at a lecture at orientation, and he was a constant reminder of the broad and rich traditions that make up our cultural heritage. He was an inspiration and a phenomenal teacher.

Submitted by Edward Morley, Columbia College 1988, who is solely responsible for the content.
